How We Review Online Casinos
Every review on Casino General follows the same written process. This page explains what we check, how we score, what gets a casino blacklisted, who we link to and how to report a mistake.
1. What we check, and where it comes from
| Check | Primary source | Re-checked |
|---|---|---|
| Licence | The regulator’s public register, matched by the casino’s domain | Every 3 months |
| Payout speed | Our own deposit and withdrawal with a real account | Every 6 months |
| Bonus terms | The casino’s own bonus terms, read in full | When the offer changes |
| Complaints | Public complaint threads and regulator decisions, read one by one | Monthly |
| Support | Our own chats, including one outside office hours | Every 6 months |
| Responsible gambling tools | We set a deposit limit and a cool-off on our test account | Every 6 months |
We quote other review sites only as reputation evidence and always say who said what. We never copy their scores into ours.
2. How the score and rank are calculated
- Payout speed and reliability: 30%
- Licence and safety: 30%
- Bonus fairness: 15%
- Responsible gambling tools: 10%
- Support: 10%
- Games and usability: 5%
The weighted score (0 to 10) sets the rank: General 9.0+, Colonel 8.0+, Major 7.0+, Captain 6.0+. A casino we have not tested ourselves gets no score and no rank, only the label “Not yet tested”.
3. What gets a casino blacklisted
Any one of these, confirmed by our test or by documented evidence, puts a casino on “We do not recommend”:
- Winnings not paid after the player met the terms
- A self-exclusion or account-closure request ignored
- A licence claim that does not match the regulator’s register
- Terms that let the casino confiscate winnings at its discretion
- No deposit limits or self-exclusion tools at all
4. Who we link to
Most casinos we review are partners: their “Visit” button is an affiliate link and is marked as one. Partner cards are marked “Partner” and show whose licence the casino holds and whether we found it in the regulator’s register. Our position on each casino, including “We do not recommend”, is in its review next to the same button. Closed casinos and brands whose official website we could not confirm get no link.
5. Our positions
- Recommended: licence confirmed and our own test passed.
- Not yet tested: licence confirmed, our test still to come. No verdict yet.
- We do not recommend: no verifiable licence or serious red flags.
- Brand not confirmed: we could not confirm the official website.
- Closed: the casino no longer operates.
6. Corrections
If you find a mistake, see our corrections page. Casinos may send factual corrections with evidence; they cannot see a review before it is published or change a verdict.
Gambling is entertainment, not a way to make money. Set a deposit limit before you play. If you have self-excluded in your country, an offshore casino will not honour it, so please do not use one to get around it.
